The Choco 10 mine is located approximately 650 km southeast of the Venezuelan capital city of Caracas, 140 km southeast of Puerto Ordaz (and Ciudad Guayana), 15 km west of El Callao, in the Bolivar state of Venezuela. Access to site is via 190 km of paved highway that connects Puerto Ordaz to El Callao, and then via 15 km of secondary road from El Callao to the Choco 10 mine access road.
The El Callao Gold District is located within the Guasipati Greenstone Belt in the Pastora Palaeoproterozoic Province of the Guiana Shield. The Guiana Shield occupies the northern part of the Amazon Craton, one of the largest cratonic areas in the world.
